Is Spruce HIPAA-compliant?
Spruce supports HIPAA-compliant communications across phone, texting, faxing, and telehealth. Every eligible Spruce organization automatically receives a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) as part of the terms of service — no separate agreement, opt-in, or additional fees required.
You electronically agree to the Spruce BAA when you create an organization on Spruce, and you can review this agreement in our terms of service.
Can solo therapists use Spruce?
Yes. Spruce is built for solo practitioners and group practices alike. As a solo therapist, you get a dedicated business phone number, texting, faxing, and secure messaging — plus several other tools to reduce admin work (auto-replies, saved messages, etc.). Everything you need to communicate professionally with clients — all in one platform.
Can I text my therapy clients through Spruce?
Yes. Spruce offers two ways to message clients: standard SMS texting (delivered like a regular text - no app required) and secure, app-based messaging (patient will need to download the free Spruce app).
Many therapists use both SMS for simple scheduling and reminders and secure messaging for anything clinical, including video visits.
Can I send intake forms through Spruce?
Yes. Spruce offers built-in clinical questionnaires called Spruce Visits — covering assessments like the PHQ-9, GAD-7, and other common tools used in therapy.
You can send them directly to patients through a secure conversation in the Spruce app, and their responses come back to you in Spruce for review. Note that clients need to download the free Spruce patient app to complete Spruce Visits.
How much does Spruce cost?
Spruce is priced per user, per month. A user is any teammate you have added to your Spruce organization. Generally, this will include all clinicians, staff, and other employees (but not your patients).
Spruce offers two plans — Basic ($24/user/month) and Communicator ($49/user/month).
