Thriving Practice Leverages Spruce to Send 20,000+ Text Messages/Year

Meet Dr. Brianna, a nurse practitioner born and raised in the State of Washington. She is married and has two incredible young daughters who call her “Dr. Mom”. She began her work as an ICU nurse right out of nursing school at a large hospital in Seattle, WA. It was here that she realized the need and access for quality primary care for the prevention of disease through health promotion and she pursued becoming a nurse practitioner. She completed a generic Masters in Nursing at UW Bothell with emphasis in infectious disease and rural health and then immediately entered the Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner track at the University of Washington School of Nursing/Seattle with an emphasis on rural health and pain management. Prior to graduating with her Doctorate, she was hired at the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and was a nocturnist and Teaching Associate for the Acute and Chronic Pain Services managing acute post-operative pain and chronic cancer and non-cancer pain. She held this position for 5 years before moving on to pursue her own dream in small town medicine—in her small town.

Dr. Brianna has always wanted to have her own rural practice and be an active member of a rural community. She also knew she never wanted to be stuck in the 10-15 minute rushed appointment slots that the current system provides. Thrive Direct Health Care is an innovative and affordable way of providing health care to communities and provide quality services when and where it is needed—through direct care and direct relationships with the provider and the patient.

What kind of work do you do?
I am a Nurse Practitioner with a doctorate degree in Family Practice and a sub-specialty in Pain Management as well as Functional Medicine and I have a different perspective on what health means and how to help patients obtain it. I opened Thrive Direct Health Care, a DPC hybrid practice in the State of Washington, to currently provide Functional Medicine, IV Therapy, Hormone Replacement Therapy, and a provider-assisted weight loss program, as well as standard primary care services.

How long have you been doing it?
We’ve been open for five years now.

What first brought you to Spruce?
I kept losing my second cell phone and needed to streamline communication with patients.

How do you use Spruce at work?
I have a full time person just for Spruce and scheduling. We send over 20,000 text messages per year and receive 50-80 unique callers or texters a day. We use the assigned folders to assign refill requests, referral needs, MA needs, appointment requests and urgent needs. My staff then know where to go to find and sort through the communication threads.

What is your favorite Spruce feature?
Auto messaging for my after hours or time off.

What do you like to do most when you’re not working?!
I am a mom of 2 elementary school aged kids. We enjoy family time at home watching movies and reading books.
