Amey Fields built Az Breastfed Babies on more than 20 years of helping moms and babies, first as a labor and delivery nurse and now as an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). As her team of seven RN/IBCLCs grew, Spruce became the hub of the business, the way she and her team communicate with each other, their clients, and other providers across phone, texting, fax, and telehealth.
What kind of work do you do?
I am an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a labor and delivery nurse with over 20 years of experience helping moms and babies with breastfeeding.
I have three children and each one of my birth experiences have been very different and each one has shaped me to be the nurse I am today. I have experienced a natural birth with a midwife, a hospital birth with an OB, and a Cesarean birth for a persistent breech baby!
I started working as a labor and delivery nurse in 1998 and in 2010 I was given the opportunity to run the community education department at the hospital I was working at. I became Lamaze certified and began teaching childbirth and newborn care classes to expectant parents. In addition to working as a labor nurse in the hospital setting, I have also assisted with home births and spent 2 years working at a free-standing birth center. In 2011 I started a wonderful postpartum support group called Circle of Mothers that I still offer as a free weekly group today.
My main focus is helping moms and babies with breastfeeding and so I opened a private practice in 2014 and I have a team of 7 RN/IBCLCs that do virtual and in-person lactation consults to help moms and babies with breastfeeding, pumping and back to work consults.
What first brought you to Spruce?
I needed a business number, fax and wanted to do telehealth appointments.
How do you use Spruce at work?
Spruce is truly the hub of my business. It is how my team and I communicate with each other, our clients and other healthcare providers.
What is your favorite Spruce feature?
My favorite Spruce feature is the ability to tag team members and to communicate internally for collaboration.
What do you like to do most when you’re not working?
When not working, I love playing with my 3 year old granddaughter.
