Mental health practice specializing in psychological evaluations for bariatric patients is devoted to Spruce

Meet the team at Assessment & Therapy Associates, a mental health practice that specializes in comprehensive pre-surgical psychological evaluations for bariatric patients and clinical support from experienced providers.

Dr. Kati Duncan, owner and director of Assessment & Therapy Associates, has worked in bariatrics conducting pre-surgical psychological assessments since 2005. She is a committee member and regular speaker at the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and Virginia Bariatric Society. Dr. Duncan has been an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Virginia Medical School since 2007, where she completed her internship and residency training in neuropsychology. She loves working with bariatric patients both pre- and post- surgery and feels fortunate to support patients on their journey.

Dr. Duncan is licensed in Virginia and holds a PSYPACT license mobility passport, meaning she is able to practice in the following states: https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap

How long have you been doing it?
I have worked in bariatrics conducting pre-surgical psychological assessments since 2005.

What first brought you to Spruce?
We were using Google Voice and Simple Practice but desperately needed a stronger solution for secure communication. We canceled SRFax and Google and began using Spruce for fax, sms and secure texting, along with coordination and communication with the team, patients, and referring providers.

How do you use Spruce at work?
Surgeons send patients our way and we immediately get them on Spruce for communication. We use Spruce to collaborate with those surgeons, which makes their job easier, and we use it to page our providers, coordinate evaluations, and text patients.

What is your favorite Spruce feature?
We adore the tagging feature, starring messages that we need to get back to, and internal notes, which are awesome. We probably use it 1000 times a day!

How do you describe Spruce to others?
If Spruce and Simple Practice got married it would be the perfect union! I love everything about Spruce.
